The Cherry and Rose Festival of Macchia, a hamlet of Giarre, is a folkloristic event with a long tradition that attracts visitors from all over the area. This territory is known throughout eastern Sicily for the cultivation of cherries and a festival has been organized for decades to promote this fruit and roses.

In addition, some varieties of cherries produced in this area have obtained the Protected Designation of Origin. The festival of roses and cherries originates from an ancient peasant festival that was held at one time during the harvest of this fruit. Even during this festival, as in that of the “Mandorlo in Fiore” of Agrigento, various folk groups will perform.

The 2019 edition of the Cherry and Rose Festival is scheduled from 14 to 16 June. It will take place in the square of Macchia di Giarre, where it will be possible to find the stands and taste the typical local products.
During the festival days, folkloristic groups and Sicilian carts will parade through the town.
